Plant problems & protection:

  1. Bird of paradise can suffer from Botrytis cinerea (grey mould). Flowers and leaves will develop dark spots followed by a layer of grey mould. Remove the affected parts and give your plant regular airing.
  2. While it is a hardy plant, blackening stems are a clear sign of overwatering. Unpot your plant and check the root for decay and cut away black decaying roots. Repot in fresh well-draining soil and water when topsoil is dry.
