Song of India Green or Dracaena reflexa

Native to Madagascar, Mozambique, Mauritius, and other islands in the Indian Ocean, the Song of India Green or Dracaena reflexa is commonly called the Song of India.
A type of tree, this species of dracaena has thick stems topped with striking evergreen leaves featuring sweeps of light and dark green stripes.

Plant care tips:

  • Sunlight: This plant thrives in medium to full indirect or filtered sunlight.
  • Watering: Water when the top 1″ of soil is dry (once every 7 to 10 days), allow the water to drain completely, and avoid soggy soil by pouring out any excess water.
  • Soil: 40% Potting Soil + 25% coco pit + 25% Organic manure/ Vermicompost + 5% charcoal chips + 5% perlite.
  • Maintenance: low maintenance.
  • Special features: Air purifying.
  • Repotting: usually a slow growing does not need repotting often. Repot with slightly a larger pot.
  • Propagation: Propagate dracaena plant through stem cuttings immense in water after till roots germination and then pot it with soil.

Plant protection & care:

  1. Dracaena plants do not require too much water. Make sure the soil is completely drained before watering again – the top half of the soil should be completely dry.
  2. Poisoning caused by Fluoride in water can cause Dracaena leaves to turn brown and die.
  3. It is normal for the bottom leaves of the Dracaena plant to yellow and shed. That simply means that the plant is growing and giving way to new foliage.
