Plant care tips:

  • Sunlight: Keep the plant indoor or outdoor with bright light. Protect the Ficus from harsh sunlight as it can cause damage to the foliage.
  • Watering: Water the plant when the topsoil (2-3 inch) in pot feels dry to touch. Do not ever overwater the plant.
  • Soil: The soil should be well drained and fertile for growing Ficus.
  • Maintenance:  low maintenance
  • Special feature: It can remove airborne toxins from air.
  • Repotting: Choose a pot that is 2 to 3 inches larger in diameter than your current pot and avoid repotting in winters as the plant growth is naturally slower.
  • Propagation: it can be easily propagated by seed (Growing ficus plants from seed in spring), by cutting, or by Air-layering (Air-layering will work best in April – May). Take a 4 inches cutting with about the width of your little finger from a supple branch on a healthy mother plant and dip the cutting in a good quality rooting powder.

Plant problems & protection:

  • Remove dead, infected or damaged plant parts and discard them away from the plants. For any insect attack or disease, you can use Neem oil, Eucalyptus oil or Citrus oil spray for primary treatment.
  • In extremely bright apartments (i.e. floor to ceiling windows) Ficus Moclame may get sunburned, and in this instance the safest bet is putting them in front of a sunny window with a sheer curtain. Do not block the light with a partial shade like a solar shade as they will block out the full spectrum of the sun’s radiation.
  • If you notice the leaves are turning brown, crisping, and shrivelling up, feel the soil of your plant. If it feels dry in the top few inches then you should increase the water quantity or frequency.
